The Baxter Theatre is the grand old lady of South African theatre and it’s great to see that it remains as relevant today as it was in the bad old days.
In fact, The Baxter continues to reinvent itself as a premier theatre experience in Cape Town. Sure critics might argue that the lack of enough parking and a certain bigger theatre centre count against it, but this theatre pulls in the crowds and awards.
Staff are friendly and helpful, and even airlines could take a lesson from the way the ushers guide people to their seats in quick time.
Very lovely and large theater. We went to watch Schalk Bezuidenhout perform here in November 2023 and it was an excellent experience. Parking seems to be a bit of an issue here unfortunately, but this is a common problem in Cape Town. The theater itself is very clean, well lit, and has multiple levels. The staff are very helpful, they will check your tickets and point you in the right direction, you can order drinks at the bar before and after your show. Definitely keen to visit this theater again in the future since it was such a pleasant experience.
If you need some time out of the rat race, this is the place to visit. Laughter is the best medicine_ to shed that stress which builds up in one's life. Life comes with it's serious moments but it takes others to show us that we are not the only ones passing through (sh)it.
