Excellent food! The food is authentic Indian cuisine, but in a very contemporary setting. With most Indian restaurants in Johannesburg, when you ask for"hot", it's more like mildly spicy. Sitar dispels that generalisation when you take the first bite. As it turns out, the chef is from India, and the cooking seems to tell me that he/she is yet to contract the, "I say that I want the good to be spicy, but really, I mean that it should be mildly spicy," disease that has taken over the Indian restaurant scene here. The only gripe that I had with whole experience was the perceived lack of attentiveness from the waiting staff. Even though the place was empty enough that there was more staff than patrons, we still had to look around, and even walk up to the closest staff member in order to make a request and/or order! Despite that, I look forward to going back for more "proper" Indian food.
Food is a little pricey but prepared fresh and with boneless leg of lamb (if you have the lamb).
The curry was really nice.
Sitar has just reopened and the wait was a bit long as I assume they're still working out the kitchen logistics.
Great place, divine food, overly eager waitrons (guess there's a strict manager)...most dishes in their respective category are priced the same. Flavours are amazing...Lamb Bhuna Gosht is my go to favourite! Will keep on returning with new friends and family! Very hospitable owners.
