I mostly go to this restaurant for their pizza and the authenticity claims. Their milkshakes is nice and thick and they even give a complimentary mini piece of bread that you can keep yourself busy with as you wait for your pizza. I must say, I enjoyed their pizza. Having spent only five days of my life actually eating Italian food in Rome and Venice, I cannot say how authentic I think the food is, though I think they cater for a bit more of a variety to get more customers, but what I had was pretty delicious. The only thing that was missing at my pizza was a little cup of fresh garlic. Everything else was great, as far as the pizza goes. And it isn't the horrible thick crust sold by fast food pizzerias, it was the thin crust that I would expect to get in Italy. SO in that respect, La Scarpetta did not disappoint. I also noticed a lovely selection of dishes, many of which have an Italian twist to them. I would go there again.
From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a friendly face, shown a seat and given a menu. The atmosphere is very pretty with lots to keep your eyes occupied with while your food is being created. The wine list is very nice with great selections for all price ranges. I indulged on a chocolate milkshake that was presented in a nice cup with a fun twist on the straws. The milkshake itself was perfectly rich, soft and creamy. I also ordered a custom pizza that came out loaded with my selected toppings, almost too many on some bites. The waiter, Rick was very attentive and payed close attention to detail, making sure that my every need was addressed. Once my meal was completed and my bill was paid, Rick wished me well and I went on my way wondering if I’d every find an Italian restaurant as good as this one in South Africa. Truly a magnificent restaurant!
