What a great and understated and lovely honestly restaurant. It's like going to a friend's place to visit and have some good food, good ambiance and chill. We arrived at the premises and was greeted by the owner who recently bought the restaurant and is in the process of overhauling everything. But I must say the place looks really comforting. You have couches in the corner where you can sip your coffee and chill..
We started with a starter platter. The beef trinchado was succulent and tender, great taste. The chorico was grilled to perfection. The chicken livers were done just right.. not too overdone and soft. I didn't have the giblets as my family devoured everything before I got to it..
We all ordered, I ordered the espetada. Ok so I am a traditionalist and my parents are from Madeira so I like the espetada with just the meat and the starch.. and adding green peppers and onions between it well,in my opinion, is not needed... It's nots original but i must say that the beef taste was absolutely amazing.. seasoned to.perfection and done medium rare just the way I love it. I had it with sliced lots of fries which were nice. P had prawns and creamed spinach and butternut (my pet peave), she gave me a prawn to taste and it hit the tasting nudes to the tee... the garlic the sauce the peri peri all came together just right and enough to allow the flavour of the prawn to.be the star of the show. My dad had a grilled king clip and we also swooped a bit each, yum!!!!! It was a generous portion and the flavour was perfect. It actually reminded me of my mom's cooking.. so yes amazing.
Dessert wad then offered. I had a decaf coffee and stole a spoon of chocolate mouse which was silky smooth and tasted of.lovely smooth chocolate.. my parents had the creme caramel which they enjoyed.
So constructively and looking at the menu, I would suggest that a Portuguese steak be added (so saw Betoque wad there but it had mushrooms? But imagine a lovely 300g rump steak fried in that garlic olive oil with bay leave & soft fried egg on the top of that.. that will.break into your soft delicious rice. I also think that the espetada should loose the onion and green pepper slice as the beef on its.on was tremendous and the option of mixed vegetables should be added.. the pumpkin and creamed spinach is 19voetsek.lol... but again, the owner I understanding is overhauling the menu and I overheard that Picanha steak may come in, that alone brings upon great expectations with such great future for the restaurant.
The attention to detail is amazing and I look forward to.having many more happy meals here in the future.. do yourself a favour and have a lunch here, you will not be sorry
