Okay where do I start, I'm frequently looking for good oysters around jhb and I think I've found the ultimate place. Shucked Oyster Bar situated perfectly in Craighall, this is an establishment thats definitely worth the visit. From the front desk all the way to the owner, these guys really know what they doing. Before we get to the food, just a quick shout out to the guys at the bar, Caven and Sipho really know how to throw out some awesome cocktails. Another shoutout to the owner Mark, although extremely busy he took the time to have a conversation with us which I found was very refreshing. Moving on, as you walk through the doors and shown to your seat, you are given a welcome drink on the house, a very awesome GESTURE. Now for the oysters, we ordered 6 and then another 6 and then 6 more, yes its alot of oyster, but they are so fresh and absolutely delicious. It felt like I was standing at the ocean, we also tried the grilled oysters which was absolutely stunning, but something that really blew my mind was the fried oysters. They were deep fried until golden served with a sauce of your choice. Seeing as everything we ordered soo far was soo good, we decided to order other things like chicken wings (delicious) and Marrow bones in a broth (mind blowing). All in all there's absolutely nothing I can complain about. We even got two non oyster eating people to eat oysters (it's all about the freshness). Make sure you call to make a reservation.
I've been meaning to try Shucked for the longest time and so glad I finally went. I love the open airy space over looking Jan Smuts, and the interiors are so pretty, very IG-worthy. There's a regular menu and an oyster menu. Our waitress was very knowledgeable with what to try. I've only ever eaten fresh oysters but their menu has fresh, fried, and grilled. We opted to do six fresh and six grilled, which are already flavoured but if you choose deep fried, you select dips. The oysters were so good, I regret not coming here sooner. I had the Mignonette (French, my fav cos acidic flavour); sesame, spring onion & lime; and salmon & cream cheese for my fresh ones. And for grilled I went for a few cheesy ones, with garlic and herb butter. I never considered eating oysters this way before. My staple is Tabasco, black pepper and lemon juice. After that I had butter beans LOL (swipe to see), it was light in a delicious liquidy thing and we shared a crème brûlée for dessert. I can confidently say this is the best I’ve had in SA! It replaces an old fav from a French restaurant that closed down. It was so decadent, that we staggered eating it with our hot drinks, we made it last. Our waitress also kept re-filling our water continuously and didn't make me feel guilty for not ordering a drink off the menu, a small but appreciative touch. A sublime meal and I can’t wait to go back.
Went through for my birthday after seeing a review on Instagram... absolutely loved our meal! I never knew there were so many ways to eat oysters! Delicious food with great service. Will definitely be back.
