At the beginning of our trip to Durban we wondered, where to find the city’s hip hot spots. But eventually we stumbled upon Durban’s Station Drive district. It’s this typical kind of place, which transformed from an industrial area into a creative hub. And of course, such a place would be nothing without an outshining coffee place. Khuluma is the perfect symbiose of industrial charm and millennial pink. You can definitely see the thoroughly thought through interior concept that made this place right away much-loved, but I like that the factory elements have a disruptive effect on it. The great thing is, that it´s not just a place for itself, it´s an open space – completely in the mindset of this vibrant cultural precinct, they created here. You can sit in front of the store, in the backyard or just in between. At our visit we had of course some urgently needed coffee, that we fully enjoyed, plus we grabbed a quick bite: Halloumi salad and a toast, both super fresh and tasty. But my highlight was their freshly made espresso butter for the fluffy banana bread. Never saw this on the menu somewhere else before and it gives this dessert a special touch. Unfortunately, we missed the “First Thursday”, where the whole Station Drive is open until late and filled up with events. I can just imagine that it’s a nice opportunity to mingle with locals. But in any case, this place is worth a visit at any time.
