Had a quick lunch at L & L today (22/5/19) and it was pretty decent fare, i had the potato skins with huge jalapeno poppers on the side, my wife had bangers and mash which she enjoyed. I also had a delicious cup of Lavazza coffee, the service was quick and hassle free.

As with most things in life we oftentimes, are looking so far out into the horizon that we fail to see, the shoreline at our feet and feel the sand between our toes. This analogy so aptly describes, the local Sports bar and Cafe Lords and Legends Brighton Beach, on the Bluff in Durban. Like most beach goers of the local community, driving down to the nearby beach is a respite from the week's troubles and a much needed frolick and tan time. For those who visit from places nearby or far afield, that do not remember to pack the car with mountains of food and drink, my advice is really truly, it's not necessarily a bad thing.
The ideally located, Lords and Legends Brighton Beach nestled into the base of a mountainside, overlooking the ocean is an oasis of true delight. Surprisingly for a sports bar this open plan, bright and breezy restaurant and bar is kid friendly, offering an entertainment area for the kids. The menu, a feast of fuss free offerings for the whole family. We arrived on a beautiful sunny day and seated ourselves upstairs in the enclosed seating area, for the opportunity to view the splendid seaview whilst we dined. One would be forgiven for forgetting one is a stone throw away from their own front door.
The menus offer a choice between their Regular Menu and their famous Lunch Menu. We opted for the daily Lunch Menu suggested by our fantastic waitress, Christine. (Said menu is available Mon-Fri between 11am and 4pm). It boasted ideal light lunches of varying combinations, which were met with glee. Whilst we waited, we took in the spectacular views sipping on perfectly chilled, brilliant colored cocktails that pack a punch and milkshakes. One would be forgiven for thinking you are in a Carribean bar off the coast somewhere.
My man's in house double patty, Beef Burger covered in a sticky bbq sauce, sandwiched between fresh salad and a soft sesame seed bun was relished and devoured within minutes. He found the chips fluffy on the inside and crispy. The two Flat Breads ordered: One Hawaiian Bbq Chicken with Tzatziki and the other, Honey Soy Roast Pork with Cilantro Lime Yoghurt. Both arrived with super soft aromatic flavors, flanked by crispy coated onion rings and those fluffy chips also. The generosity of the portions had both family members requesting doggy bags for their late night nibbles.
My Deep Fried Calamari Strips arrived on a board, beautifully displayed with crispy chips, lemon wedge and a creamy Tartar Sauce. The Calamari was lightly seasoned and the crumbed coating, crunchy. As I sank my teeth into super soft, melt in the mouth strips I pondered, how most places disrespect the calamari by over cooking it. I must applaud their perfection of this offering.
Thoroughly satiated, alas we declined Christine's bubbly offers of desserts, she said we would be hard pressed to refuse. The bill arrived, reflecting a fraction of what one would ordinarily pay, for such an experience. If you ever are at Brighton Beach, go pop in and experience this for yourself. A word of caution though, try not get too familiar, with those brightly colored delicious concoctions, as they quietly pack a punch!
The food was super. They are very generous with their portions. A perfect spot for a pub lunch or get together with pals. Small play area for kids...but mostly aimed at giving adults good value for money with a lovely view over the ocean.
