It was cold the day I arrived at Tumbleweed Cottage in McGregor. A crisp kind of cold where you don’t shiver, but you would not say no to a mug of the coffee from Strictly Coffee in Robertson which I had become accustomed to while visiting these little patches of vibrantly alive dorpies.
Besides, I had discovered a true gentleman with a winning smile in the owner, Hanno Schwartz. I rate a feeling of belonging highly on my scale of returning. My head always thinking too much, with a heart born from sentimentality, which my also be the death of me.
All this, while indulging in their delicious, banting friendly breakfast and cappuccinos. I admit, I did not expect these little towns to know about banting and was pleasantly delighted when in conversation I realized they didn’t just think “low carb”, they had done their homework. I watched as Hanno checked each plate as it left his kitchen. Winner, right there.
We were on our way to a media trip in Mcrgregor.
In a little under 2 hours drive we were the first to arrive at our first stop the homey Strictly Coffee in Robertson. We were welcomed warmly by owners Ina & Henno and graciously seated close to the nearest plug point…the day’s adventures had not yet begun and already my phone desperately needed juice. #bloggerproblems
Soon we were joined by several other bloggers, writers and travel aficionados and our hostess the Merry Mira, from McGregor Country Getaways herself.
You’d be forgiven for thinking you’d just stepped into Oppiekoffie from 7de laan, with it’s warm, delicious, wallet-friendly, home-baked goods just like Tannie Hilda used to make!
InThis former Railway House was converted into a coffee shop a mere 7 years ago with the food being added to the menu from just last year. The bread baked fresh on the premises, the coffee freshly ground and in addition owner Henno has his own charcuterie; conjuring up some tasty cured meats which are not only on the menu but for sale to take home with you with you.
We sampled a few spicy chorizo slices before grabbing a quick bite. Whilst I had a tasty croissant and cheese, the BF had a full on rustic farmers breakfast with the works!.There’s a little something for everyone on the menu even for the banters with their freshly baked carb free bread!
It’s not hard to see why the locals love this spot!
What's your favourite breakfast to order at a coffee shop or restaurant?
I'll have to admit that I was a bit of a late joiner when it came to Eggs Benedict but this has now become my ultimate test for an eatery. If you can get eggs bennie right, you can be trusted with everything else.
As a result, I've had some really bad Eggs Benedict, which I'd rather not talk about and a handful of amazing experiences.
This Eggs Benedict from Strictly Coffee in Robertson #DiscoverMcGregor makes it into my Top 10
