Ordered the aubergine bake as a starter to share. It was delicious and a quite a big starter.
The portions are big and we probably should have shared a main. Food was good and service was excellent. Would have preferred the lamb shank in a red wine gravy or something other than the tomato sauce it was served in.
We were so stuffed and had to take doggie bags. We couldn't even try a dessert. But will definitely be back again.
This is The Boss of all eateries in Riebeeck Kasteel and the rest can go to bed. Fantastic atmosphere with an inspired menu that delivers what it promises, and more.
Our Melanzane starter came in a cute glazed pot with yummy slices of toasted ciabatta. The stonefruit and walnut salad will be remembered as one of the best salads ever. It was beautifully presented and a true feast for eyes and palate: cherries, plums, pear and apple shared a plate with leaves, beetroot, goat’s cheese and walnuts.
For mains: blue cheese and walnut ravioli were nicely oversized and slightly pan fried (no mushy ravioli here) and served with roasted caramelly pears and fig and rosemary butter.
Mama Cucina is super busy, yet the staff handles it all with utmost grace and professionalism where other eateries in this town can’t seem to get a grip. Our waitress has been there for six years. That says a lot about the kind of place Mama Cucina is.
Can’t wait to return. What an awesome experience.
Could not fault this experience one bit! The food is outstanding, all ingredients are locally sourced and of highest quality which clearly adds to the superior taste. The overall asthetic is very cute, lovely porch surround an old house with fairy lights and much greenery. Indoors is cozy and has a lovely family friendly atmosphere. Service was speedy and attentitive. If your in the mood for Italian with a fresh modern bistro twist or just very good food in the midst of Riebeek Kasteel then look no further!
