For the uninitiated: here's a dining experience worth every cent! Last night we were cooked for by Su-Yen at Chez Fong, and I mean literally cooked for: each dish is cooked right there, and served by her to each table, with a description of all the ingredients. An eight course meal, each course a generous portion of Asian inspired dishes, served with dipping sauces and sichuan salt(salt infused with sichuan pepper). We could not get enough of her sweet chilli sauce, and when I asked for the recipe, she brought over the pan she made it in and showed and shared. Sweet corn fritters, a heavenly chicken soup with wild watermelon in a deeply flavourful broth, seared tuna encrusted with black sesame seeds, pork dumplings, scallops wok-fried and heaped on a plate, shredded duck imbued with star anise, and more. Next time I'd like to sit at the counter, and watch her cook. Su-Yen is a marvel, a delight to watch and talk to, and generous and creative in the food she offers. A small, exclusive space with what in summer must have magnificent views over the city (last night the view was screened off against the cool night air). The 20 odd people there: three tables and the counter space, made for an intimate but fun experience. When we left, it felt as if we'd just been to a dinner party at a good friend and good cook's house!

We are crazy food-snob freaks who travel all over the world to eat and be merry! Having just returned from Hong Kong the force was strong - a craving for fantastic Asian food came upon us. And there she was, right on our doorstep, this creative, energetic dynamite Tiger chef, rocking her food. Each plate a perfectly balanced mini symphony of spicy, sweet, bitter, sour and salty. The Chez Fong experience is certainly worth waxing lyrical about. And so I shall! Will certainly go back for an encore!
