My pic shows my standard order from this plaice, The full seafood platter, enough to feed 3-4 adults. I’ve had this many many times and it’s always consistent and excellent. Ive tried fish and chips at a lot of restaurants and this keeps up with all of the best. The batter is crisp, light and tasty. I order take out and always unpack and let it rest on the paper it’s packed with. This allows it to stay crisp and drain oil as well. The chips are really good, hand cut and fresh and fried perfectly too. The peri peri sauce is a great add on, as well as the slaw. For me this is definitely the best in durban.

Coming from Johannesburg to Umhlanga, one would naturally Google "the best fish & chips in KZN" - The Fish Plaice popped up on top; my review is as follows: R140, at the time, for the 'Pensioner's Special' (any age) is great value for money and will sufficiently fill two tummies. Fish:: FRESH! 9.8/10 - dash of salt at home does the trick. The normal size hake, in my opinion, is perfect and not much smaller than the large. Chips:: 7.5/10 - Cut from fresh potatoes, not frozen, which is good yet I found something to be lacking here in terms of preparation from pealing/cutting/possible pre-cook to the actual final fry; likely that there is too much time delay between the former and the latter, and it leaves the chips a bit "dry" in the middle and a tad on the stale side. I'm sure this can be easily fixed. Also, a little more salt/vinegar could go a long way. Falklands Calamari (half portion):: Fresh, batter is thin so that it doesn't take away from the Calamari itself; batter lacks salt. R41 at the time, value for money considering its Calamari; one would need to buy two of these for a full meal of protein as one serving would just be a starter portion(8 to 10 pieces). Dish does not include chips. Bean Salad:: Refreshing! Tastes like home; we opted for this instead of the coleslaw. Service:: Extremely friendly and patient staff, they seem genuinely happy, and that shows. We will be back!

Good food at a reasonable price. Good value for money. I will use them again and recommend them to anyone looking for fish and chips.
